TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Pawtucket Red Sox in the second game of a two-game series from McCoy Stadium (7:05 p.m.). The Herd is looking for the series sweep following a 3-1 victory over the PawSox on Thursday. The Bisons have just three games left before the All-Star Break.
vs. THE PAWSOX: The Bisons are 3-6 against Pawtucket this year, having lost a pair of four-game series: April 9-12 at Coca-Cola Field and May 16-19 at McCoy Stadium. However, it has been a closely fought season-series as seven of the nine games have been decided by two runs or less. Each team has also won a contest in extra innings.
HOT JAVY: INF Javier Castillo has now matched former Bison INF/OF Wily Mo Pena for the longest hit streak for Buffalo this year. Castillo went 1-3 with a walk last night to extend his hit streak to 13 games. The slugger has averaged .400 (20-50) since June 26 with three doubles, three home runs and five RBI. Castillo has now hit in 20 of 24 total games with the Bisons.
CHIPS AHOY: OF Chip Ambres had a perfect night against his former club. The outfielder was 3-3 with a walk and a pair of home runs. Ambres began the year with Pawtucket and hit .259 with three homers and 18RBI in 52 games. Acquired in a trade on June 10, Ambres becomes the third Bison player to homer twice in a game this year. OF Fernando Martinez was the last to accomplish the feat, May 19 in Pawtucket
OH NELLY: With his eight masterful innings last night, RHP Nelson Figueroa continues his climb up the league leaders. The Bisons All-Star is now sixth in the league in ERA at 2.50. Figueroa has won five straight decisions and has not allowed more than two runs in a start since May 28 (seven starts).
ROADIE DETOUR: After tonight’s game in Pawtucket, the Bisons will not be taking their scheduled bus ride to Moosic, PA. Because of drainage issues at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s PNC Field, the Herd will face the Yankees at Alliance Bank Stadium in Syracuse, NY. The teams will play at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11 and then 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 10. The Bisons will still serve as the road team against the ‘home’ Yankees.
