TODAY’S GAME: This evening, the Buffalo Bisons host the Norfolk Tides for the final game of a four-game series at Coca-Cola Field (7:05 p.m.). The Herd is looking for the split of the series. The Tides hold a 2-1 advantage following yesterday’s 3-1 victory in Game 3. After this series, the homestand will continue on Tuesday with a four-game set against the Gwinnett Braves.

GET READY FOR REDDING: RHP Tim Redding will make the second start of his major league rehab assignment tonight against Norfolk. He debuted with the Herd last Wednesday and delivered a solid outing. The veteran allowed just one run with five strikeouts in six inning of work. The New York Mets placed Redding on the DL on April 6 (retro to March 27) with a right rotator cuff strain.

STARTING STRONG: RHP Nelson Figueroa kept the string of solid starts going for the Herd’s rotation yesterday. Figueroa allowed just two runs in seven innings of work for another quality start. In the last 11 games, Bisons starters have combined for a 2.08ERA. The group was struck out 47 and allowed just 49 hits in 65.0 innings of work.

THE REY TO GO: INF Argenis Reyes went 2 for 3 yesterday with a double and a walk. He is now hitting .328 on the season and with his 11 walks, has posted a .431 on-base percentage. If Reyes had two more plate appearances, his on-base mark would qualify as 6th best in the entire International League. He also ranks tied for 1st in the IL in fielding among second basemen (.990) and is tied for 1st on the Bisons with five steals.

SMOOTH CRIMINALS: OF Cory Sullivan stole his first base of the season last night. The Bisons have been safe in their last 17 steal attempts dating back to April 16. On the year, the Bisons have stolen base successfully in 20 of their 22 attempts (91% success rate).

ON THE CHARTS: The Bisons pitching staff now has the 5th lowest ERA in the International League (3.77). RHP Nelson Figueroa’s 2.57ERA is the 10th best while his 0.86 WHIP is tied for 3rd. OF Fernando Martinez is tied for 2nd in the IL with 12 doubles and 17 extra-base hits.

TODAY’S GAME: This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons host the Norfolk Tides for the third game of a four-game series at Coca-Cola Field (1:05 p.m.). The series is tied 1-1 after a 4-1 Bisons victory on Friday night and a 5-1 win by the Tides on Saturday. After this series, the homestand will continue on Tuesday with a four-game set against the Gwinnett Braves.

REAL MEN WEAR PURPLE: The Bisons players today will be wearing purple caps to support the American Cancer Society. Purple is the international color of cancer survivors. Each player has autographed a hat that will be raffled off in the concourse during today’s game (raffle tickets are $5).

OH NELLY: RHP Nelson Figueroa has been one of the top pitchers in the IL so far this season. His 2.57ERA through four starts ranks 11th in the International League while his 0.76 WHIP is best among IL hurlers. Figueroa has just 11 hits and five walks in 21.0 innings of work. He has not allowed more than four hits in any of his four starts with the Bisons this year. Figueroa has also gotten opposing batters to hit into six doubleplays already this season.

STARTING STRONG: RHP Kyle Snyder kept the string of solid starts going for the Herd’s rotation. Snyder allowed just an unearned run on one hit in four innings yesterday. He also struck out six batters. In the last 10 games, Bisons starters have combined for a 2.02ERA. The group was struck out 45 and allowed just 43 hits in 58.0 innings of work.

IMPRESSIVE DEBUT: RHP Tim McNab made his Bisons debut yesterday and gave the team three solid innings of relief. He struck out three and allowed just one hit. He even erased that baserunner with a doubleplay. Last season, McNab was 3-3 with a 5.55ERA in 50 games with New Orleans (AAA).

THE REY TO GO: INF Argenis Reyes doubled twice yesterday and is now hitting .310 on the season. He also has 10 walks for a team-high .412 on-base percentage. If Reyes had three more plate appearances, his statistics would qualify under league minimums. He also ranks 2nd in the IL in fielding among second basemen (.989) and is tied for 1st on the Bisons with five steals.

TODAY’S GAME: This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons host the Norfolk Tides for the second game of a four-game series at Coca-Cola Field (1:05 p.m.). Buffalo struck first in the series with a 4-1 victory last night thanks to eight solid innings from RHP Brandon Knight and two RBI from OF Fernando Martinez. After this series, the homestand will continue on Tuesday with a four-game set against the Gwinnett Braves.

STARTING STRONG: The Bisons rotation has been the strength of the team of late. Since April 4, Herd starts have combined to go 3-3 with a 2.17ERA in nine starts. The group has struck out 39 and allowed just 42 hits and eight walks over 54.0 innings of work. The stretch includes a complete game from RHP Dillon Gee on May 2 vs. Louisville, a nine-strikeout performance by RHP Brandon Knight on May 3 and eight innings of one-run ball by Knight in last night’s victory over the Tides.

A NEW CLOSER: RHP Elmer Dessens has notched saves in back-to-back games for the Bisons. The veteran pitched 1-2-3 ninth innings in Thursday’s victory in Lehigh Valley and last night against the Tides. Dessens’ last previous save was July 4, 2006 while he was a member of the Kansas City Royals. Dessens had 10 career saves in over 1,800 professional innings before 2009.

EXTRA, EXTRA: OF Fernando Martinez continues to battle former Bisons MVP Todd Linden atop the IL hitting charts. Both sluggers doubled last night, so the two remain tied for the most doubles (12) and extra-base hits (17) in the International League. On the Bisons, Martinez has now pulled even with OF Jesus Feliciano for the top batting average (.300).

TRUST YOUR GLOVE: The Bisons have played four consecutive errorless games. The team now sports a .983 fielding percentage, the second-best mark in the International League. The Herd has committed an IL-low 16 errors this season. INF Argenis Reyes leads all second basemen with a .988 fielding pct.

SMOOTH CRIMINALS: C Robinson Cancel collected his third stolen base of the season last night. As a team, the Bisons have been safe in their last 16 steal attempts dating back to April 16. On the year, the Bisons have stolen 19 bases in 21 attempts (90%).
