TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Toledo Mud Hens in the third game of a four-game series from Fifth Third Field (7:00 p.m.). The Hens won the first two games of the set, (11-10, 6-1). Tonight’s game is part of an eight-game roadtrip as the club will travel to Columbus for a four-game series after Wednesday’s off day.

vs. THE HENS: The Bisons are 2-4 against the Mud Hens so far in 2009. The teams split a four-game series back at Coca-Cola Field, July 16-19. Despite losing the last two games against the Hens, the Herd still has a .564 overall winning pct. (53-41) against Toledo since returning to the IL in 1998.

KEN OUTSIDE THE PEN: LHP Ken Takahashi will make his fourth start as a Bison tonight since being moved out of the bullpen and into the starting rotation on July 7. In his last start for the Herd, the southpaw allowed three hits and no runs in four innings of work. The veteran has a 2.50ERA in four starts for Buffalo this year. Takahashi has an impressive 1.70ERA with 13 walks to 26 strikeouts in 37.0 innings of work for the Bisons on the season.

WHAM BAM THANK YOU LAMB: INF Mike Lamb is clearly in mid-season form. Released at the end of camp by Milwaukee, the veteran had just three at-bats in extended spring after signing with the Mets on April 25. After just 19 hits in his first 108 at-bats with the Herd, Lamb has averaged .303 (56-185) since May 29. He is currently on a five-game hit streak where he has averaged .526 (10-19) with 6RBI, July 29-August 2.

MR. CONSISTANCY: OF Jesus Feliciano has been the best hitter for the Bisons all season long. Feliciano has averaged .342 (25-73) since the All-Star break and has been held without a hit in just four games since the start of July. Overall, Feliciano’s .311 average is sixth best in the International League while his 113 hits are 4th best. He also stole his team-high 12th base last night.

ROSTER MOVE: RHP Jim Ed Warden joins the Bisons from Binghamton (AA) today. Warden was 0-1 with a 1.42ERA and 1 save in 20 relief appearances with the B-Mets (25.1IP, 22H, 21K). Warden was 1-1 with a 7.33ERA in 16 games with the Herd in 2007 (23.1IP, 38H, 20K). The Mets will promote RHP Nelson Figueroa today to start in their game against Arizona.

Toledo takes two

Adam Pettyjohn made his first start for the Bisons on Sunday afternoon but Toledo spoiled the outing picking up a 6-1 win. Chris Lambert worked 8 2/3 on the mound, taking the shutout into the ninth.

Jesus Feliciano was held hitless for the first time in nine games while seven of nine batters picked up hits in the loss. Toledo takes a 2-0 series lead heading into Monday’s action at 7 p.m.

Today’s game is part of an eight-game roadtrip as the club will travel to Columbus for a four-game series after Wednesday’s off day.

vs. THE HENS: The Bisons are 2-3 against the Mud Hens so far in 2009. The teams split a four-game series back at Coca-Cola Field, July 16-19. Despite last night’s loss, Toledo has been kind to Buffalo. The Herd has a .600 winning pct. (27-18) in last 12 years at the home of the Mud Hens.

DYNOMITE DEBUT: LHP Adam Pettyjohn will make his first start as a Bison tonight. The southpaw threw three innings of relief in his Herd debut on Wednesday and earned the victory over the PawSox. Pettyjohn was signed by the Mets on July 27. Last season, he won an International League-best 15 games while with Louisville, going 15-6 with a 4.59ERA as a Bat.

THE HITS KEEP COMING: OF Jesus Feliciano collected three more hits last night, raising his current hit streak to a personal high of nine games (.368, 14-38). Feliciano has averaged .362 (25-69) since the All-Star break and has been held without a hit in just three games since the start of July. Overall, Feliciano’s .315 is 5th best in the International League while his 113 hits are 4th best.

SOLID PEN WORK: LHP Adam Bostick added two more innings of shutout relief last night to his impressive season. The flame-thrower has struck out 12 batters in his last 7.0 innings of work. On the season, Bostick has allowed just 14 hits to 26 strikeouts in 24.0 innings of work. Right-handed batters have averaged just .143 (9-63) off him this season.

Today’s game is part of an eight-game roadtrip as the club will travel to Columbus for a four-game series after Wednesday’s off day.

vs. THE HENS: The Bisons split a four-game series with the Mud Hens at Coca-Cola Field, July 16-19. The series included a Buffalo sweep of a doubleheader on July 18 with 1-0 and 2-0 scores. The Bisons won the season series a year ago 5-3 because they won three of the four games at Fifth Third Field.

PITCHING STAFF ON A ROLL: The Bisons’ pitching staff has really excelled recently. The team has posted a stellar 1.86ERA over its last 10 games. During the stretch, Herd hurlers have struck out 65 and allowed just 75 hits in 87.0 innings of work. Last night’s game was the first time in 10 games the team issued more than two walks in a contest (5 last night). Overall, the Bisons pitching staff is up to the 4th best in the International League (3.72ERA).

ON THE SNYD: RHP Kyle Snyder makes his third consecutive start for the Bisons tonight. The versatile pitcher has made seven starts and 19 relief appearances for the Herd this year. He threw five innings and struck out six batters on Monday in Indianapolis. He made one appearances against Toledo as a reliever, allowing a run in two innings of work.

THE HITS KEEP COMING: OF Jesus Feliciano has matched a personal season-high with his current eight-game hit streak. Since July 24, Feliciano has averaged .344 (11-32) with two doubles and five runs scored. Feliciano also hit in eight straight, July 6-16 (.387, 12-31). Feliciano ranks 5th in the International League in average (.312) and 4th in total hits (110).

McNAB’N VICTORIES: RHP Tim McNab enters today’s game with a 12.2 consecutive scoreless innings streak. The stretch is the longest on the year for a Bisons reliever. He also leads the bullpen with five wins. McNab is now 5-2 with an impressive 1.90ERA in 42.2 innings of work this season.

TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons face the Pawtucket Red Sox in the final game of a four-game series at Coca-Cola Field (7:35 p.m.). The Herd has taken the first three games of the series (2-1, 3-0, 4-1), and would collect their first four-game series sweep of the season with a win tonight. The Bisons have now won five of their last six games. After tonight’s series finale, Buffalo heads to Ohio for an eight-game trip in Toledo and Columbus.

vs. THE RED SOX: The Bisons are now 7-6 against Pawtucket this year. The Herd has won the last five games against the PawSox, having only allowed three total runs in this streak of wins. Buffalo swept a two-game set in Pawtucket, July 9-10 (3-1, 1-0) and leads 3-0 in this current four-game series. The Bisons have a .534 winning pct against the PawSox since 1998 (101-88).

THE HITS KEEP COMING: OF Jesus Feliciano enters tonight’s game on a seven-game hit streak, averaging .357 (10-28) since July 24. The outfielder has been great this month, with a .333 (34-102) average in 26 games. The Bisons slugger is 5th in the IL in batting (.312) and 4th in the league in total hits (109).

TOBI LIVE: RHP Tobi Stoner gets the start tonight. The Triple-A rookie was dominating his last time out. On Sunday in Indianapolis, Stoner allowed just one run on four hits in a season-high eight innings of work. The righty also fanned a season-high eight batters and did not issue a walk.

PITCHING STAFF ON A ROLL: The Bisons’ pitching staff has really excelled recently. The team has posted a stellar 1.62ERA in its last nine games, helping the team to a 6-3 record since July 22. Herd hurlers have allowed just 14 earned runs in their last 78.0 innings of work and now have the 5th lowest team ERA in the International League (3.71). The group has only walked nine batters while striking out 63 in the nine-game stretch.
