TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Columbus Clippers in the third game of a four-game series from Huntington Park (7:05 p.m.). The set is tied 1-1 as the Clippers took the opener 9-6 on Friday while the Herd was victorious last night, 4-3. Buffalo is just 1-5 so far on this eight-game roadtrip that concludes this weekend. On Monday, the Bisons host the Rochester Red Wings in a five-game in four-game series at Coca-Cola Field.
vs. THE CLIPPERS: The Bisons are 3-3 against Columbus thus far in 2009. The teams split a four-game series back at Coca-Cola Field, May 21-24, with Columbus taking the first two games and Buffalo winning the last two contests.
POWER SURGE: The Bisons hit three home runs in a game for only the second time all season. OF Chip Ambres, INF Mike Lamb and C Rene Rivera all went deep last night. The only other game the Herd accomplished the feat was on April 13 at home against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as OF Bobby Kielty, OF Fernando Martinez and DH Michel Abreu homered in a 6-5 loss to the Yankees. The Bisons have hit 56 home runs so far this season.
CATCHING FIRE: C Rene Rivera has had the power stroke working of late. The catcher has homered in three of the team’s last four games. Rivera went deep in back-to-back games on August 3 and 4 in Toledo and then again last night. He has four hits on this roadtrip, all for extra bases. Rivera has also scored a run in four straight games.
PETTYJOHN ON THE MOUND: LHP Adam Pettyjohn will start for the Bisons tonight. It’ll be his second start and third appearance since joining the Herd on July 27. TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Columbus Clippers in the first game of a four-game set from Huntington Park (7:05 p.m.). The Bisons are looking to snap a five-game losing skid after getting swept for four games in Toledo to begin this eight-game roadtrip. After the series, the Herd returns home to Coca-Cola Field to open up a nine-game homestand against Rochester and Lehigh Valley.
vs. THE CLIPPERS: The Bisons are 2-2 against Columbus thus far in 2009. The teams split a four-game series back at Coca-Cola Field, May 21-24, with Columbus taking the first two games and Buffalo winning the last two contests. Since returning to the IL in 1998, the Bisons hold a 48-44 (.522) advantage over the Clippers. Buffalo was 21-23 at Cooper Stadium.
TOBI TIME: RHP Tobi Stoner gets the call on the mound for the Bisons tonight. Stoner has been an innings-eater of late, averaging seven innings pitched over his last five starts. However, his 2-3 record over that stretch isn’t indicative of how well he’s pitched (3.60ERA) compared to his first four starts where the Triple-A rookie averaged just five innings/start and had a 5.75ERA.
ROAD SWEET ROAD: INF/OF Nick Evans continues to prefer life away from home. The slugger enters tonight with a 13-game road hit streak. Over a stretch that began July 12, Evans has averaged .321 (17-53) away from Coca-Cola Field with nine extra-base hits (6 doubles, 2 triples, 1 home run). It’s the longest active road hit streak in the IL and five games behind Syracuse’s Jorge Padilla (18G) for the longest streak in the IL this season.
ROSTER MOVES: C Robinson Cancel and LHP Pat Misch rejoin the Bisons from today after their big league promotions. Cancel was 0-1 in one game for New York while Misch posted a 2.51ERA in 13 appearances out of the pen for the Mets (14.1IP, 9K).
BACK-TO-BACK: C Rene Rivera and INF Andy Green have each hit home runs in back-to-back games for the Herd. This is the second time this season Rivera has hit homers in consecutive games (May 29-30). OF Fernando Martinez accomplished the feat as well this season for the Bisons (May 18-19).

vs. THE HENS: The Bisons are 2-5 against the Mud Hens so far in 2009. The teams split a four-game series back at Coca-Cola Field, July 16-19. THE BEST OF BROADWAY: RHP Lance Broadway gets the start for the Bisons tonight. In five games and four starts in July, the former first round draft pick is 2-1 with a solid 2.67ERA. The stretch began with a nine-inning complete game on July 8 against the Yankees. In his last start, Broadway allowed just one run in 7.1 innings of a no-decision against Pawtucket.
BACK-TO-BACK: C Rene Rivera and INF Andy Green hit back-to-back homeruns in the 4th inning of yesterday’s game off RHP Eddie Bonine. It was the first time the Bisons have hit back-to-back home runs since May 24, 2008 when OF Jason Cooper and INF Aaron Herr hit two in a row. It was the first time the Bisons hit two home runs in the same inning this season.
ROAD SWEET ROAD: INF/OF Nick Evans continues to prefer life away from home. The slugger enters tonight with a 12-game road hit streak. Over a stretch that began July 12, Evans has averaged .292 (14-48) away from Coca-Cola Field with seven of the hits good for extra bases (4 doubles, 2 triples, 1 home run). It’s the second longest active road hitting streak in the International League, trailing only Lehigh Valley’s Paul Hoover (15 games).
SOLID PEN WORK: LHP Adam Bostick has struck out 12 batters in his last 7.0 innings of work. On the season, Bostick has allowed just 14 hits to 26 strikeouts in 24.0 innings of work. Right-handed batters have averaged just .143 (9-63) off him this season.
