TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Toledo Mud Hens in the final game of a four-game series from Fifth Third Field (7:00 p.m.). The Mud Hens won the first three games of the set, two of which were walk-off victories. Following tonight’s game, the Bisons will travel to Columbus for a four-game series that starts on Thursday.
vs. THE HENS: The Bisons are 2-5 against the Mud Hens so far in 2009. The teams split a four-game series back at Coca-Cola Field, July 16-19. Despite losing the last three games against the Hens, the Herd still has a .558 overall winning pct. (53-42) against Toledo since returning to the IL in 1998.
THE BEST OF BROADWAY: RHP Lance Broadway gets the start for the Bisons tonight. In five games and four starts in July, the former first round draft pick is 2-1 with a solid 2.67ERA. The stretch began with a nine-inning complete game on July 8 against the Yankees. In his last start, Broadway allowed just one run in 7.1 innings of a no-decision against Pawtucket.
BACK-TO-BACK: C Rene Rivera and INF Andy Green hit back-to-back homeruns in the 4th inning of yesterday’s game off RHP Eddie Bonine. It was the first time the Bisons have hit back-to-back home runs since May 24, 2008 when OF Jason Cooper and INF Aaron Herr hit two in a row. It was the first time the Bisons hit two home runs in the same inning this season.
ROAD SWEET ROAD: INF/OF Nick Evans continues to prefer life away from home. The slugger enters tonight with a 12-game road hit streak. Over a stretch that began July 12, Evans has averaged .292 (14-48) away from Coca-Cola Field with seven of the hits good for extra bases (4 doubles, 2 triples, 1 home run). It’s the second longest active road hitting streak in the International League, trailing only Lehigh Valley’s Paul Hoover (15 games).
SOLID PEN WORK: LHP Adam Bostick has struck out 12 batters in his last 7.0 innings of work. On the season, Bostick has allowed just 14 hits to 26 strikeouts in 24.0 innings of work. Right-handed batters have averaged just .143 (9-63) off him this season.
