Dickey strong, but Herd falls 7-2
For the second time in a week, R.A. Dickey spun his knuckleball with great success at Coca-Cola Field. Dickey allowed just two runs in eight innings but the Yankees exploded late in a 7-2 victory over the Herd on Monday afternoon. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre scored one off the Bisons’ starter in the eighth inning and five off the Buffalo bullpen in the ninth to seal the victory.
Coming off a complete game victory in the team’s Home Opener, Dickey retired 16 of 17 batters in the middle of another solid outing. The righty kept Yankees’ hitters off balance by mixing in his up-tempo knuckler with a fastball on both sides of the plate. It wasn’t until the eighth inning the Yanks got the run they needed for victory.
Buffalo first scored in the bottom of the sixth inning. Josh Thole doubled over the head of Winfree in left field. The Herd then executed great fundamentals as Fernando Martinez chopped one to the right side of the infield to move Thole over. Mike Hessman drove a two-strike pitch to deep right field for a sacrifice fly and his team-leading 10th run driven in.
In the bottom of the ninth, Mike Cervenak hit his first home run of the season.
Prior to the game, the Bisons lost a key bat in their line up as Ike Davis got the call to New York. The 23 year-old prospect had his contract selected by the Mets to make his big league debut.
Herd marathons…
The Mets and Cardinals battled through most of Saturday before finally posting a win, 2-1, in 20 innings. Got us thinking… How do some of the Bisons marathons compare to what we saw unfold in St. Louis tonight?
Longest Game, Innings: 20, 8/17/86 at Indianapolis (6-5 Win)
Longest Game, Time: 5:39, 8/17/86 at Indianapolis (20 innings)(6-5 Win)

Bisons fans, were any of you there or have a special memory to share about a long night you watched the Herd play?
Quick thoughts: We went 15 innings against Pawtucket during the opening weekend last year and 13 innings on July 3 two years ago. (and the next week a 14 inning game vs. Norfolk)

Gee: 7 shutout, Ks 8 in victory
Dillon Gee put up seven zeroes and allowed just three hits as the Bisons shutout the Yankees, 2-0, Saturday evening from Coca-Cola Field.
Gee allowed just four base runners -three singles and a walk. He erased two of those with a strike-’em-out, throw-’em-out doubleplay to end the second inning and a 6-4-3 twin-killing in the fifth. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre pushed just one base runner past second base against the righty.
The Bisons got the only runs they would need with a two-out rally in the third inning. Jesus Feliciano singled up the middle and moved to third on Mike Cervenak’s double down the left field line. Ike Davis singled to the right-centerfield gap on the first pitch from Yankees’ starter Jason Hirsh to plate both Herd baserunners.
Davis has hit in six straight games and 8-of-9 contests this season.

Series Review: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre
4/11: BUF 4, SWB 1: After missing the final 98 games of the 2009 season, Dillon Gee returned to the mound with a absolute gem.
The 23-year-old right-hander limited the Yankees to two hits in six scoreless innings as the Bisons completed a series win. Gee struck out four and didn’t walk a batter. He retired 11 of the first 12 batters he faced and prevented the Yankees from reaching third base.
The Bisons’ offense did its part. Before Gee stepped on the mound, Jason Pridie and Ike Davis drew walks. Mike Hessman then launched another gigantic homer to left field. Hessman, who finished 3-for-4, also homered in Saturday’s victory. Minor League Baseball’s active home-run leader now has 313 in his career.
The Bisons tacked on an insurance run in the ninth inning as Davis doubled to center and later scored on Mike Cervenak’s groundout. Bobby Parnell got the Bisons out of a jam in the eighth inning and stayed on in the ninth to earn his first save. Davis had a walk and a double. He reached base safely at least twice in all four games of the series.
4/10: BUF 2, SWB 1 (11 innings): Mike Hessman and Chris Carter hit mammoth homers. Buffalo has won two of the first three games in their series against the Yankees, with all three games decided by one run. Carter’s blast was the game-winner.
The former Red Sox farmhand wasted little time in the 11th, driving the first pitch from reliever Jonathon Albaladejo to deep right field. Carter led Pawtucket last season with 16 homers and 61RBI.
Mike Hessman hit his first homer in a Bisons uniform in the eighth to put the first dent in the scoreboard. The minor leagues active leader in home runs, Hessman hit No. 312 on a 1-2 pitch off Mark Melancon.
Pat Misch started the game for Buffalo and tossed six shutout innings in a no-decision. Manny Acosta made his Bisons debut and kept Scranton/Wilkes-Barre off the scoreboard in the seventh and eighth innings.
4/9: BUF 7, SWB 6: The Bisons’ offense broke through for the first time in 2010 while erasing a 6-2 deficit. Jason Pridie’s two-run single in the eighth made the Herd a winner.
Buffalo’s high-powered offense came through against the Yankee bullpen. Chris Carter cut the four-run deficit in half in the sixth when he tripled home Fernando Martinez and Mike Hessman. An inning later, the lead was down to one when ex-Met Royce Ring uncorked a wild pitch with Luis Hernandez on third base. The Bisons capped the rally with two more runs in the eighth. Carter led off with a walk and Mike Cervenak got himself on board with one of his two hits on the night. Two batters later, Pridie pulled a pitch through the right side of the infield to plate both the game-tying and go-ahead runs.
First base prospect Ike Davis continued his torrid start with a long home run to center field. Davis has reached base in six of his first nine Triple-A plate appearances. He is 4-for-7 with two doubles, a homer and two walks.
4/8: SWB 1, BUF 0: Opening Day starter Tobi Stoner tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings before a rain delay ended his outing. Bobby Parnell, who set a Mets rookie record for appearances with 68, tossed 2 1/3 scoreless relief innings.
First baseman Ike Davis went 3-for-4 with two doubles in his Triple-A debut. David Winfree’s homer off ex-Nationals pitcher Mike O’Connor in the fourth inning accounted for the lone run.
