Blaquiere blasts Bisons to win
The Bisons will return home to Coca-Cola Field on Friday riding a two-game winning streak thanks to a pair of home runs from Blaquiere in a 6-1 victory over the Bats on Thursday night from Louisville Slugger Field.
Blaquiere hadn’t played a game above Single-A when he joined the club on Tuesday. Three days later, the catcher had three hits and four RBI. He hit a three-run shot in the fourth inning to get the Bisons on the board. Two innings later, Blaqueire’s solo shot to left field gave the Herd an insurmountable 6-0 lead.
In between Blaquiere’s blasts was a two-run homer from Mike Jacobs in the fifth inning. The three home runs accounted for all six of Buffalo’s runs.
On the mound, Tobi Stoner won his second straight start with his best performance of 2010. The righty allowed just one run and struck out five in seven innings of work.
Bobby Parnell worked two hitless innings to close out the win.
Mike Hessman reached base for times with a single and three walks. The slugger had a hit in all eight games of the roadtrip.
Rally in 9th leads to win
The Bisons scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to snap their three-game losing streak and collect an 8-7 victory over the Bats on Wednesday afternoon.
Mike Jacobs forced in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly and Elmer Dessens made the late lead stand up to earn his fifth win of the season.
The Herd trailed 7-5 heading into the final frame as the Bats attempted a comeback rally of their own. Louisville erased a 5-3 deficit by scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh.
But it was Buffalo who scored last. Ruben Tejada singled to lead off the ninth off closer Jon Adkins and newcomer Tony Maccani doubled off the wall in left field. Andy Green and Jason Pridie followed with back-to-back RBI-singles to tie the score.
Jesus Feliciano sacrificed the runners over and Jacobs hit a soft liner to shallow centerfield. Louisville’s Chris Burke made the sliding catch, but couldn’t recover in time as Green scored easily from third base for the game-winning run.
Jacobs got the Bisons scoring started with a solo home run in the first inning. Mike Hessman hit his 10th homer of the season, a three-run shot, to give the Bisons a 5-3 lead in the sixth inning. Hessman has 38 RBI in Buffalo’s 32 games played.
Dessens worked the eighth and ninth innings to improve to 5-0 on the season. He struck out a pair. Dillon Gee started for Buffalo and allowed six runs in 6.2 innings of work.
