Young guys shine in win
Home runs from Triple-A rookies Jordany Valdespinand Raul Reyes helped the Bisonsdefeat the Red Wings, 6-5, on Monday night at Coca-Cola Field.
Salomon Manriquez added a three-run double and Chris Schwinden picked up his eighth win of the season as Buffalo completed the two-game sweep of their closest rival.
Valdespin got the team going right away, taking Eric Hacker’s first pitch of the night and depositing it into the Bully Hill Party Deck. The blast was Valdespin’ssecond of the season and quickly extended his hit streak to eight games.
In the second inning, Manriquezemptied the bases when he doubled down the left field line. Josh Satin, Luis Hernandez and Bubba Bell all scored on the play to give Buffalo a 4-1 advantage.
After Rochester rallied to tie the game at four, Reyes led off the fifth inning with a massive home run. A much needed insurance run -and eventual game-winning run- came across in the sixth inning when Hernandez tripled and scored on a sac fly from pinch hitter Luis Figueroa.
Schwinden earned the victory to improve to 8-7 on the year. The righty struck out six and allowed four runs in six innings of work.
Dale Thayer worked the ninth inning for the third consecutive night to earn his 21st save of the season.
BISONS NOTES: The Mets announced that outfielder Mike Baxter has been optioned to the Bisons to make room for the activation of Jose Reyes to the big league club…The Bisonsare now 37-34 in games decided by two runs or less this year.
