Bisons fall to Bats, 8-3

It wasn’t quite the deficit the Herd faced on Friday night, but a four-run first inning was more than enough to give Louisville another victory over the Herd.

The Bats collected an 8-3 win over Buffalo on Saturday from Louisville Slugger Field. Devin Mesoraco hit a three-run home run and Dontrelle Willis worked into the sixth inning for his third win of the season.

The Bisons began their eight-game roadtrip on Friday night, but the Bats didn’t exactly roll out the welcome mat. Louisville scored seven runs in the first inning en route to a 15-7 win in the series opener.

On Saturday night, it was a 4-0 lead built by the Bats offense off Herd starter, Brian Sweeney. Doubles from Zach Cozart and Juan Francisco opened the scoring. Two batters later, Mesoraco launched a 2-1 pitch from the Bisons’ righty to deep left field.

A second four-run rally from the Bats put the game out of reach in the fifth inning. Louisville loaded the bases with two singles and a walk to knock Sweeney from the game. Mesoraco collected a fourth RBI with a ground out off of reliever Bobby Parnell. Danny Dorn and Brent Clevlen followed with back-to-back doubles to give Louisville an 8-2 edge.

The Bats have now won four straight from the Bisons, dating back to the series back at Coca-Cola Field to begin May.

Buffalo scored two of their three runs in the second inning. Jon Malo and Raul Chavez each collected RBI singles.

BISONS NOTES:Bubba Bell made his Bisons debut and collected a single in his only at-bat. It’s the third straight day a player has collected a hit in his first at-bat with the team. Michael Fisher doubled on Thursday and Luis Figueroa had a pinch-hit single on Friday…John Lujan pitched two shutout innings in relief.
