TODAY’S GAME: This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons face the Columbus Clippers in the final game of a four-game series at Coca-Cola Field (1:05 p.m.). The Herd has won seven of its last eight games and is looking for the four-game sweep of the Clippers today. Tomorrow, the Bisons start an eight-game roadtrip to Lehigh Valley, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Pawtucket.
HOME SWEET HOME: The Bisons are 6-1 on this homestand that ends today. Buffalo has not won seven games in a homestand since going 7-3 in a 10-game stand, June 3-12, 2004. Ironically, all three losses came June 4-6 to Columbus. The last time the Herd went 7-1 on a homestand was July 16-23, 2001 with a four-game sweep of Pawtucket and a series win over Durham.
vs. CLIPPERS: The Bisons are 5-2 against the Clippers this year. The teams split a four-game set in Columbus, July 27-30. A victory today would give the Bisons their first sweep of a four-game series since April 13-16, 2007 in Columbus. The club’s last four-game sweep at Coca-Cola Field was June 20-23, 2005 over a Norfolk Tides club that was managed by Ken Oberkfell.
TO DUDA LIST: OF LUCAS DUDA went 1-4 with a runs scored in last night’s win. The Triple-A rookie has now scored a run in 10 of his last 11 games (11 total runs). Since his June 13 promotion to the Bisons, Duda leads all International League hitters with 30 extra-base hits and a .655 slugging pct.
BURN AND TURN: INF JUSTIN TURNER has hit in 20 of his last 22 games with the Bisons. Since July 4, Turner has average .391 (34-87) with eight doubles, six home runs, 14RBI and 19 runs scored.
PADDING STATS: OF JORGE PADILLA has reached base safely in 10 straight games for the Herd. Since July 27, the outfielder has averaged .297 (11-37) with three doubles, six RBI, four walks and six runs scored.
BISONS BITS: Today’s game is the Bisons’ final non-divisional matchup of 2010. The Herd’s 30 remaining games are against the IL North, with 19 coming against teams with losing records…Bisons designated hitters are averaging .291 (74-254) with 12 homers and 51RBI. In 2009, Buffalo got just a .228 average, six homers and 30RBI out of its DH…RHP DILLON GEE is now first in the IL with 132 strikeouts and tied for 2nd in the league with 11 wins.
METS UPDATE: The Mets (55-55) are back at the .500 mark after a 1-0 win over Philadelphia, last night. OF JEFF FRANCOEUR hit a home run in the seventh for the game’s lone tally. LHP JOHAN SANTANA delivered 7.1 scoreless innings to improve to 9-6 on the year. The Mets faces the Phillies again tonight at 1:35 p.m.
