Local product leads Indy win

Indians second baseman Jim Negrych did some damage against his hometown team as he provided the only two runs that either club scored on the night. In the sixth inning after Indians right fielder Brandon Moss drew a leadoff walk, Negrych hit a two-run home run to center field in a 2-0 Indians win at Coca-Cola Field.

The St. Francis graduate took a 2-1 offering from Bisons starter Pat Misch to deep center field for his second Triple-A home run in only six games. Negrych accounted for three of the Indians seven hits by collecting two singles and his two-run blast on his 3-4 night. Since being called up to Triple-A on June 11, Negrych has been hitting .470 with five RBI.

Despite the homer to Negrych, Misch pitched seven solid innings in his thirteenth start of the season. In his seven innings of work, Misch only gave up six hits and those two runs from Negrych’s home run while striking out four.
The Indians pitching staff retired 19 of the final 20 batters faced, including 18 straight. The Herd was finally able to put a runner on base in the ninth inning when catcher Josh Thole drew a walk with two outs.

Thole was unable to extend his multi-hit game streak to four games tonight by only going 1-3. Thole has been one of the Bisons best hitters in recent games by hitting a staggering .426 since May 18. Center fielder Fernando Martinez and left fielder Lucas Duda had the other two hits for the Bisons by going 1-4 and 1-3 respectively. The loss for the Herd drops their record to 35-32 while the win improves the Indians record to 36-31.

BISONS NOTES: The Bisons will continue their four game series with the Indians tomorrow as right handed pitcher Jon Maine will be making a rehab start for the Herd. Maine who has been on the disabled list since May 21 with right shoulder weakness will take on Indians left hander Brian Burres (1-1, 4.91 ERA). First pitch is slated for 7:35 p.m.
