TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons face the Louisville Bats in the final game of a four-game set from Louisville Slugger Field (7:05 p.m.). The Herd is looking for a series split after winning last night’s ballgame, 2-1. The Bisons continue their eight-game roadtrip in Indianapolis with a four-game set with the Indians starting tomorrow at 7:15.
vs. THE BATS: The Bisons are now 3-4 against Louisville this year after last night’s 2-1 win. The teams split a four-game set in Buffalo, April 30 – May 3. The Herd lost the season-series a year ago, 5-3. Buffalo has a .537 winning percentage (51-44) against Louisville since returning to the IL in 1998.
GETTIN’ FIGGY WIT’ IT: RHP Nelson Figueroa will get the start today for the Herd in Louisville. Figueroa is the reigning IL Pitcher of the Week after tossing a seven-inning, complete-game shutout in game two of a doubleheader against Toledo on July 18. The veteran enters tonight’s contest with the second-best ERA (2.32) in the IL behind only Carlos Torres (2.20) of Charlotte. The right-hander brings a few streaks into tonight’s game. Figueroa is riding a streak of eight consecutive quality starts, has thrown 14 straight scoreless innings and has won six consecutive decisions for the Herd.
SOLID ‘PEN: Relievers RHP Tim McNab and RHP Brandon Knight combined to throw five scoreless innings last night to preserve the 2-1 win. With his three scoreless innings yesterday, McNab now has a scoreless streak of 10.2 innings, spanning five games. Knight is now a perfect 3-3 in save opportunities since taking over as the Herd’s closer.
KEEPING A HOT BAT: OF Jesus Feliciano is hitting .421 over his current five-game hit streak. The Herd’s most consistent hitter all season, Feliciano is tied for seventh in the IL in hitting (.312) and fourth in total hits (99). He also leads the Bisons with 36RBI on the season.
HELPING YOUR OWN CAUSE: Last night’s starting pitcher Kyle Snyder drove in the winning run with an RBI single in the second inning. Snyder is the second Bisons pitcher to pick up an RBI this season. LHP Jonathon Niese knocked in a run in the Herd’s 5-1 victory in Gwinnett on June 25.
