TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons face the Rochester Red Wings in the first game of a four-game in three-day series at Frontier Field (7:05 p.m.). Rain shortened a two-game set between the rivals in Buffalo to just a 6-2 Wings’ victory last night. On Tuesday, the Herd returns to Coca-Cola Field for a two-game series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees.

vs. THE RED WINGS: The Bisons are 0-2 against the Red Wings this season. Both defeats came in single games, April 28 in Rochester (0-1) and last night in Buffalo (2-6). The teams have 14 games against each other, including a pair of doubleheaders: July 5 in Rochester and August 10 in Buffalo. Buffalo holds the 98-79 (.554) advantage since their return to the IL in 1998.

FULL NELSON: RHP Nelson Figueroa gets the start tonight, looking to continue his string of five consecutive quality starts. Figueroa has allowed more than three runs in a start only once all year, leading the Herd with nine quality efforts. One of those dominate performances came on April 28 in Rochester, as he held the Wings to just one run on four hits in seven innings. However, he was dealt the loss as Rochester won, 1-0.

WHOA NELLY!: RHP Nelson Figueroa was selected to the International League All-Star team yesterday. The veteran was a perfect 3-0 with a razor-thin 1.53ERA in five starts in June. Overall, Figueroa’s 2.61ERA is 8th in the IL. He also leads the Bisons with nine quality starts. Figueroa will be joined by Bisons manager Ken Oberkfell, who is a coach for the IL All-Star team.

HOT HITTER: C Robinson Cancel has the team’s top current hit streak. The veteran has hit in nine straight, averaging .314 (11-35) since June 19. Last night, Cancel reached base three times going 1-2 with a pair of walks. Former Bison Wily Mo Pena has the season-high with his 13-game hit streak, May 25 -June 7.

RETURN OF PEREZ: LHP Oliver Perez continued his major league rehab with the Bisons last night. The southpaw allowed three runs in five innings. Perez also pitched with the Herd on May 26, working 4.1 innings and allowing just one run. Perez continues to work his way back from a right knee injury that landed him on the Mets disabled list on May 6 (retro to May 3).
