Misch to Mets, Schwinden joins Bisons

The New York Mets selected the contract of Buffalo Bisons LHP PAT MISCH.

The Bisons also announced that RHP CHRIS SCHWINDEN has been promoted to the Bisons on Saturday. He will start for the Herd TONIGHT against Pawtucket at McCoy Stadium (6:05 p.m.).

The Bisons 2010 Most Valuable Pitcher, Misch made one start for the Herd this season. The southpaw allowed five runs in seven innings in a loss to Pawtucket on April 9.

Bisons fall to Yankees, 5-3

The Bisons bullpen wiggled and dodged its way in and out of trouble all Friday night, but got into one too many tough situations to preserve a series win.

Dan Brewer’s eighth inning triple off Manny Acosta drove in the game-winning run as Scranton/Wilkes-Barre rallied for a 5-3 over the Herd from PNC Field. The victory gave the Yankees the 2-1 series win over Buffalo.

Buffalo had held the Yankees to 0-13 with runners in scoring position until Brewer erased a 3-2 Bisons’ advantage. The Yanks right fielder, who only entered the game in the fourth inning when starter Greg Golson was ejected for arguing a called strike, hit a full count offering from Acosta down the right field line. That drove home Justin Maxwell and Doug Bernier for the game-tying and go-ahead runs.

Acosta recovered to strike out Ramiro Pena, but uncorked a wild pitch to Jesus Montero that allowed Brewer to score the insurance run.

Prior to the eighth, the Herd had managed to get out of jams. Dale Thayer relieved starter Casey Fossum with a pair of runners on base in the fifth inning and got Jordan Parraz to ground out. Mike O’Connor took over for Thayer with bases loaded and only one out in the seventh. The Bisons southpaw struck out Chris Dickerson and got another ground out from Parraz to end that threat.

Trailing 2-0, the Bisons cut the deficit in half in the fifth inning when Justin Turner tripled and scored on a ground out from Raul Chavez. Russ Adams doubled home a pair an inning later to give Buffalo a 3-2 lead.

The loss was charged to Mike O’Connor (0-1). The southpaw walked Maxwell and gave up a bunt single to Bernier in the eighth inning before being relieved by Acosta.

CASEY ON THE MOUND: LHP CASEY FOSSUM will look to bounce back in his second start with the club this season. Fossum allowed seven runs in 4.1 innings of work on Monday to Pawtucket in his 2011 Bisons debut. Fossum spent 2010 in Japan, but began the 2009 season with Buffalo. The southpaw posted a 0.82ERA in two starts before being promoted to the Mets.
