After missing the final 98 games of the 2009 season, Dillon Gee returned to the mound with an absolute gem on Sunday afternoon to lead the Bisons to victory at PNC Field. The 23-year old allowed just two hits in six shutout innings as the Bisons completed a series win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees with a 4-1 decision.

Gee struck out four and didn’t walk a batter. He retired 11 of the first 12 batters he faced and prevented the Yankees from reaching third base.

The Bisons’ offense did its part to make Gee feel comfortable. Before Gee even stepped on the mound, Mike Hessman gave him a three-run lead to work with. After walks by Jason Pridie and Ike Davis, Hessman launched another gigantic home run to left field.

Hessman, who finished the game 3-4 with a pair of singles as well, also homered in Saturday afternoon’s victory. The minor leagues active home run leader now has 313 home runs in his career.

The Bisons tacked on an insurance run in the ninth inning as Ike Davis doubled to center and later scored on a ground out by Mike Cervenak.

Bobby Parnell got the Bisons out of a jam in the eighth inning and stayed on in the ninth to earn his first save of the season.

BISONS NOTES: Sunday’s game was the only game in the series that was decided by more than one run.The Bisons won three of four games against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to open the season. It was their first four-game series victory since they took three of four from the Red Barons on April 27-30, 1998. Ike Davis had a walk and a double. He reached base safely at least twice in all four games of the series.

Mike Hessman and Chris Carter hit mammoth home runs and provided all the offense needed in Buffalo’s 2-1, 11-inning victory over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday afternoon from PNC Field. Buffalo has now won two of the first three games in their series against the Yankees with all three games decided by one run.

Carter’s blast was the game-winner. The former Boston Red Sox farmhand wasted little time in the 11th inning, driving the first pitch he saw from reliever Jonathon Albaladejo to deep right field. Carter led Pawtucket last season with 16 homers and 61RBI.

Mike Hessman hit his first home run in a Bisons uniform in the eighth inning to put the first dent in the scoreboard. The minor leagues active leader in home runs hit #312 on a 1-2 pitch off Mark Melancon.

Pat Misch started the game for Buffalo and tossed six shutout innings in a no-decision. Manny Acosta made his Bisons debut and kept Scranton/Wilkes-Barre off the scoreboard in the seventh and eighth inning.

The New York Mets have optioned INF RUBEN TEJADA to the Bisons. Tejada has joined the Herd in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for this weekend’s games against the Yankees.

Tejada, 20, was 1-6 (.167) in three games with the Mets after making the club out of spring training. While in camp, Tejada led the Mets with 22 hits and 11 runs scored by hitting .344 (22-64) in 26 games with New York. Last season, Tejada hit .289 (141-489) with five home runs, 46RBI and 19 stolen bases in 134 games with Binghamton.

At 20 years and 165 days old, Tejada will be the youngest player to appear in a game for the Bisons in almost 17 years. C ANGELO ENCARNACION was 20 years and 135 days old when he played for Buffalo late in the 1993 season. OF FERNANDO MARTINEZ was 20 years and 178 days old when he started for the Herd on Opening Day a season ago.

In 2009, Tejada was the youngest player in all of Double-A baseball.

To make roster room, INF LUIS HERNANDEZ has been transferred from Buffalo to the Binghamton Mets (AA).

The Bisons offense broke through for the first time in 2010, erasing a 6-2 deficit in a 7-6 win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees. Jason Pridie’s two-run single in the eighth inning made the Herd a winner for the first time this year.

Buffalo’s high-powered offense came through against the Yankee bullpen. Chris Carter cut the four-run deficit in half in the sixth inning when he tripled home Fernando Martinez and Mike Hessman. An inning later, the lead was down to one when reliever Royce Ring uncorked a wild pitch with Luis Hernandez on third base.

The Bisons then capped the rally with two more runs in the eighth. Carter led off the inning with a walk and Mike Cervenak got himself a board with one of his two hits on the night. Two batters later, Pridie pulled a pitch through the right side of the infield to plate both the game-tying and go-ahead runs.

Ike Davis continued his torrid start with a long home run to centerfield. Davis has reached base in six of his first nine Triple-A plate appearances. Davis is 4-7 with two doubles, a home run and two walks this season.

The Bisons’ offense just couldn’t get started on a long rainy night in Moosic, PA.
Buffalo batters struck out 11 times, hit into three doubleplays and fell to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees, 1-0, on Thursday night from PNC Field. In a game that featured an hour and 13 minute rain delay, the Herd failed to dent the scoreboard against four Yankee hurlers.

The lone run of the night came compliments of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s outfielder David Winfree. Three pitches after the grounds crew took the tarp of the field in the fourth inning, Winfree took a 2-0 delivery from Bisons’ reliever Mike O’Connor (0-1) over the wall in left-centerfield.

Buffalo’s offense collected just six hits on the night, including two hits to lead off the second inning and two more to start off the fifth. Those rallies were haulted by a pair of around-the-horn, 5-4-3 doubleplays hit into by Russ Adams and Jesus Feliciano.

Ike Davis had the best night at the plate for Buffalo, going 3-4 with a pair of doubles. However, his ninth-inning strikeout at the hands of Jonathan Albaladejo ended the first game of season for Buffalo.

Tobi Stoner saw his Opening Day start cut short because of the inclement weather. He looked the part as the top pitcher in the Herd rotation with four strikeouts in 3.1 scoreless innings.

O’Conner took the loss because of the Winfree home run. The southpaw recovered to throw two innings of relief for Buffalo.

Mark Melancon (1-0) earned the win for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with two shutout innings of work of starter Ivan Nova.

BISONS NOTES: Bobby Parnell threw 2.1 shutout innings in his Bisons debut…Feliciano bounced into 18 doubleplays a season ago with the Herd. That was the second most in a single season in the Bisons Modern Era…Buffalo went 0-8 with runners in scoring position.
