WGR features Bisons on Friday nights

The Buffalo Bisons today announced that the Bisons Radio Network will now feature a Friday “GAME OF THE WEEK.” to be aired on WGR Sportsradio 550 AM. The 2009 Marconi Award-winning station will broadcast every Bisons’ Friday night game for the rest of the 2010 season.

The “Game of the Week” schedule will begin on Friday, May 7 as the Bisons are in Indianapolis to take on the Indians (7:15pm). There are 18 remaining Friday games on the Bisons 2010 schedule. This is the second consecutive year that WGR Sportsradio 550 AM has featured a Bisons’ “Game of the Week.”

“For years, WGR has represented the voice of sports fans throughout the Western New York community,” said Mike Buczkowski, Vice President, General Manager of the Buffalo Bisons. “We are looking forward to once again expanding our audience and bringing the excitement of Bisons Baseball to the fans of WGR Sportsradio 550.”

“Summer Friday nights in Buffalo and Bisons Baseball go hand-in-hand. We’re excited again to showcase their games on WGR every Friday night,” said Greg Ried, Vice President/General Manager of Entercom Buffalo.

The broadcasts on WGR will not affect the radio schedule for the Bisons flagship station, Entercom’s WWKB 1520 “A New Voice.” All Bisons games will continue to be aired on WWKB as well as the Triple-A All-Star game on Wednesday, July 14 from Lehigh Valley, PA and any potential post season games.

All Bisons games will continue to be available for free on the official website home of the team: Bisons.com.

Tonight: Chapman to face Bisons

See the Bisons face one of the most talented prospects in all of baseball.

Aroldis Chapman has been clocked at 102mph and will bring his record-breaking fastball to the mound on Monday night. The Cuban-defector is schedule to start for the Louisville Bats. The southpaw has posted 1.29ERA, 22 strikeouts in first four Tiple-A starts.

The Bisons will toss Tobi Stoner in game three of the series at 7:05 p.m. Currently, Buffalo is 5-1 on homestand. The Herd took 3-of-4 from Durham and bounced the Bats Saturday and Sunday.

Hessman wins weekly award

The International League today announced that Bisons INF MIKE HESSMAN has been named the league’s Batter of the Week for the period from April 26-May 2.

In the past seven games, Hessman has averaged .321 (9-28) with a double, four home runs, 14RBI, seven runs scored and a .786 slugging percentage. He homered twice in the Bisons’ 9-5 victory over Durham on April 27 and then hit the club’s first grand slam since August of 2008 when he went deep in the team’s 12-7 win on Friday. Hessman also had a two-run home run and a two-run single in yesterday’s dramatic 6-4, 10-inning victory over Louisville.
