TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees in the first game of a two-game series from PNC Field (7:05 p.m.). The Herd is 0-3 so far on their current roadtrip that is now just five games long, thanks to last night’s rainout in Syracuse. Buffalo will return home to Buffalo on Friday for a four-game series against the Chiefs.

VS THE YANKEES: The Bisons will have revenge on their mind at PNC Field. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre swept the Herd in a four-game series at Coca-Cola Field last week, April 13-16. The series was much closer than it looks, however, as three of the four games were decided by one run while the other was a 5-3 defeat in 11 innings on April 14.

GO GREEN: The Bisons have activated INF Andy Green today. Green had missed the first 11 games of the season with a left oblique strain. He is a career .299 hitter in 762 minor league games. Signed by New York on July 2, 2008, Green hit .331 (59-178) with 8HR and 28RBI in 52 games with the New Orleans Zephyrs (AAA) last season.

F-MART: OF Fernando Martinez had two more hits on Sunday against Syracuse. The 20-year old prospect now has five multi-hit performances in the team’s first 11 games. One of those two hits was his International League-leading 7th double on the year. Martinez also leads the IL with a total of nine extra-base hits (7 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run). Martinez’s .277 batting average leads the Bisons team.

NO FREE PASSES, PLENTY OF K’S: The Bisons pitching staff did not issue a walk in Sunday’s defeat in Syracuse. The combination of LHP Jonathon Niese, RHP Kyle Snyder and RHP Ken Takahashi also struck out seven Chiefs. The Bisons pitching staff leads the IL with 99 strikeouts so far this year.

METS SIGN PENA: The Mets signed OF Wily Mo Pena to a minor league contract yesterday. He is scheduled to report to extended spring training in Port St. Lucie before eventually joining the Herd. Pena batted .205 (40-195) with two homeruns and 10RBI in 64 games with the Nationals in 2008.

Greener fields

Green042109.jpgThe Buffalo Bisons, Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, today activated INF Andy Green from the team’s disabled list. Green has missed the first 11 games of the season with a left oblique strain.

Green, 31, split last season between Louisville of the International League and the Mets Triple-A affiliate in New Orleans in the Pacific Coast League. The Mets signed the infielder as a free agent on July 2, 2008 and he hit .331 (59-178) with eight homeruns, 28RBI and three stolen bases in 52 games with New Orleans.
