Youkillis rehabs tonight in Pawtucket
The past few days have been very eventful while visiting the Pawtucket clubhouse.
Yesterday, the Boston Red Sox had Daisuke Matsuzaka on hand to continue his rehab assignment with Pawtucket. “Dice-K” threw for about 20 minutes in left field on Sunday, two days after he pitched on the mound in what is presumed his final rehab start. The Red Sox have penciled him in to start Friday. We’ll have some of his thoughts on the air tonight, so join us on “Countdown to Bisons Baseball” at 6:35 p.m.
While talking with PawSox manager Ron Johnson he revealed that Kevin Youkillis (pictured) will play in the final two games of the Bisons’ series.
Youkillis is expected to DH tonight and play at first base Tuesday afternoon in the series finale.
Buffalo and Pawtucket meet on Monday at 7:05 p.m. and conclude their series on Tuesday at 12:05 p.m.
Crazy finish at McCoy
A pitcher’s duel between Buffalo and Pawtucket unfolded Sunday afternoon with an unlikely outcome. Both teams battled scoreless through the first 10 2/3 innings until Argenis Reyes scraped the Bisons’ bullpen wall with 2-run homer.
Not to be forgotten in the loss, Dillon Gee’s 6 1/3, eight strikeouts to set the table.
Paul McAnulty started the rally with a leadoff double and the PawSox put together four straight hits to cut the lead in half, tied the game with Freddy Guzman’s RBI single and a bases loaded walk to Jonathan Van Every gave Pawtucket the 3-2 win.
Buffalo faces Pawtucket Monday at 6:05 p.m.

TODAY’S GAME: This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons face the Pawtucket Red Sox in the second game of a four-game series from McCoy Stadium (1:05 p.m.). The PawSox struck first in the series with a 3-2 comeback victory last night. After this series, the Bisons will have an off-day on Wednesday before returning home for an eight-game homestand against Columbus and Lehigh Valley on Thursday.
vs PAWSOX: The Bisons are 1-4 against Pawtucket this season after the Red Sox won a season-opening series at Coca-Cola Field, April 9-12. Buffalo has not lost a season-series to the PawSox since 2005, going 10-6 against Pawtucket in each of the last three seasons.
GOSH GOLLY GEE: RHP Dillon Gee is coming off his best outing as a Bison. On Tuesday against Gwinnett, Gee allowed just one run on three hits in seven innings of a no-decision. He also struck out seven Braves batters. It was the second time in three starts Gee has allowed just one run in seven innings as he threw a complete-game in the first game of a doubleheader on May 2 against Louisville. The Triple-A rookie is tied for the team lead in innings pitched (38.0) and is second to only RHP Brandon Knight (39) with his 34 strikeouts.
F-MART: OF Fernando Martinez now leads the Bisons in all three triple crown categories. The rookie has hit .285 with four home runs and 20RBI. Martinez also collected his first two stolen bases of the season in the last three games.
ALWAYS ON: INF Ramon Martinez has reached safely in all nine games of his Bisons career. The veteran was activated off the DL on May 3 after missing the first 21 games of the season. Since then, Martinez has hit .290 (9-31) with four walks, five runs scored and a .371 on-base percentage.
ANGEL IN NEW YORK: OF Angel Pagan has completed his rehab assignment with the Bisons. He was activated by New York yesterday and pinch-hit in the team’s 9-6 win over the Giants. With the Bisons, Pagan hit .286 (4-14) with two triples and two RBI. He also picked up a pair of outfield assists in the three games he played with Buffalo.
Buffalo drops opener to Sox
The Pawtucket Red Sox were able to cling to a 3-2 lead and eventual win thanks to leftfielder, Chip Ambress’ perfect throw to the plate as Fernando Martinez attempted to score on the fly from Wily Mo Pena.

Pena would finish the game 3-4 with an RBI. Javier Valentin would drive in the second run for the Herd.
Buffalo is back in action on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. as Dillon Gee faces Michael Bowden.
Pagan to Mets, Delgado DL
The New York Mets placed first baseman Carlos Delgado on the 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to May 11th, with an impingement of his right hip. The Mets recalled outfielder Angel Pagan (pictured) from Buffalo (AAA) of the International League. Pagan will wear #16 and will be available for today’s game at San Francisco.
Pagan, 27, underwent surgery to remove a bone spur from his right elbow on March 11th. The 6-2, 195-pounder played in three major league rehabilitation games with Buffalo (AAA), batting .286 (4-14) with two runs scored, two triples, and two RBI. Pagan batted .467 (7-15) with two RBI in five spring games this year with the Mets.
The switch-hitter batted .275 (25-91) with seven doubles, one triple, and 13 RBI in 31 games in 2008 for the Mets. His season was cut short after undergoing surgery on July 29, 2008, to repair a torn left labrum after he injured his left shoulder while diving into the stands for a foul ball at Dodger Stadium on May 7th.
Pagan has hit .259 (106-409) in parts of three major league seasons with the Mets, and Chicago Cubs with 23 doubles, five triples, nine home runs, and 52 RBI.
