Rehab on hold for Ollie
As indicated on “Countdown to Bisons Baseball” last night, Oliver Perez will not continue his MLB rehab assignment in Buffalo. Following a visit with team doctors in New York City yesterday, he will stay on the disabled list in Port St. Lucie, FL.
Oliver Perez made his first rehabilitation start on May 26 vs. Lehigh Valley working 4.1 innings, allowed three hits, one run, earned, with five walks, and five strikeouts. He tossed 88 pitches, 48 for strikes and retired seven of the last eight batters he faced.
The lefthander threw 5.0 innings on May 21st in an extended spring training game in Port St. Lucie, FL. Also threw 56 pitches in 3.0 scoreless and hitless innings with four walks and seven strikeouts on May 16th in an extended spring game.

TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons face the Durham Bulls in the second game of a four-game series at Durham Bulls Athletic Park (7:05 p.m.). The Herd began their eight-game roadtrip with a solid 9-3 victory over Durham last night. After this four game series, the Bisons will travel to Norfolk for a four-game series against the Tides, June 2-5.
THE REY TO GO: INF Argenis Reyes is currently on a nine-game hit streak -the longest stretch for a Bisons’ player this year. Since May 19, Reyes has averaged .343 (12-35). Reyes has reached safely in 11 straight games and currently leads the Bisons with a .380 on-base percentage.
ON BROADWAY: With the success of former Bisons C Omir Santos in New York, the Mets were able to trade C Ramon Castro to the White Sox for RHP Lance Broadway last night. Broadway was 0-1 with a 5.65ERA in eight relief appearances with Chicago this year (16.0IP, 19H, 10R, 9ER, 9BB, 9K). He was also 0-2 with a 5.63ERA in three starts with Charlotte this year.
COOPER’S RECORDS: OF Jason Cooper hit an RBI-triple in last night’s victory. The run driven in gives him 216RBI for his Bisons career. That total ranks second in the team’s Modern Era behind only Buffalo Baseball Hall of Famer INF Bill Selby (245). The triple was Cooper’s 20th in a Bisons uniform. That ties him with INF Joe Inglett for the most in the Modern Era.
LUCKY 7s: Two of the hottest bats in the Bisons lineup belong to OF Cory Sullivan and INF Javier Valentin. Both veterans coming into tonight’s game on seven-game hit streaks. Sullivan has hit .444 (12-27) during his stretch to raise his average 50 points since May 21. Valentin has hit .346 (9-26) during his streak with three doubles, a home run and four RBI.
CORA JOINS HERD: INF Alex Cora joined the Bisons on a major league rehab assignment yesterday and went 1-5 with a double in his Herd debut. The Mets placed Cora on the disabled list on May 18 with a torn ligament in his right thumb. Prior to that, Cora had hit .333 (17-51) with four doubles, a triple and four RBI in 16 games with New York.
TRADE: Broadway bound for Bisons
The New York Mets today announced that they have acquired righthanded pitcher Lance Broadway from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for catcher Ramon Castro. Broadway will report to Buffalo (AAA) of the International League.
Broadway, 25, is 0-1 with a 5.65 ERA in eight games with the White Sox this year. In 16.0 innings, he’s allowed 19 hits, 10 runs, nine earned, with nine walks and nine strikeouts. In addition, the 6-3, 195-pounder made three starts for Charlotte (AAA) of the International League, going 0-2 with a 5.63 ERA. In 16.0 innings, he allowed 18 hits, 11 runs, 10 earned, with four walks and 15 strikeouts.
The former first round pick in the 2005 June First Year Player Draft from Texas Christian University made his major league debut in 2007.
Broadway is 2-2 with a 4.69 ERA in 19 games with the White Sox. In 40.1 innings, he’s yielded 44 hits, 23 runs, 21 earned, with 19 walks and 30 strikeouts.
He went 1-0 with a 7.07 ERA in seven games, one start last season for Chicago. In 14.0 innings, he surrendered 20 hits, 11 runs, earned, with five walks and seven strikeouts. Broadway also was 11-7 with a 4.66 in 24 games, 23 starts with Charlotte.
Castro, 33, was hitting .253 with three home runs and 11 RBI in 26 games. A member of the Mets since 2005, Castro has .237 career batting average with 58 doubles, 51 home runs, and 174 RBI in 476 games with the Marlins and Mets.
Cora upbeat after rehab
The New York Mets INF Alex Cora joined the Bisons on a major league rehab assignment Friday night. Cora played all nine innings during Buffalo’s 9-3 win in Durham.
Cora was challenged on three infield plays that he had to attempt barehanded plays, picked up two assists and one putout in the game.
At the plate, he went 1-4 (double) and reached twice on a fielder’s choice.
The Mets placed Cora on the disabled list on May 18 with a torn ligament in his right thumb.
Cora has hit .333 (17-51) with four doubles, a triple and four RBI in 26 games with the Mets this year. He last played on May 17 against the San Francisco Giants.
Bisons beat up Bulls
The Bisons pounded out 13 hits enroute to a 9-3 series opening win over the Bulls on Friday night.

During the win, Mike Lamb and Rene Rivera hit homers. Jonathan Malo had three hits and Cory Sullivan, Mike Lamb and Jason Cooper each had multi-hit games. Fernando Nieve tossed the win to stary perfect in his three starts and the bullpen tossed 2.2 of hittless ball.
Buffalo and Durham square off Saturday at 7:05 p.m. when Brandon Knights faces Carlos Hernandez.
