Herd drops second to Toledo series, 6-1

Early walks proved costly for the Herd, as they dropped the second of a four-game series in Toledo Thursday night, 6-1.

Herd pitchers stranded 17 Toledo runners, but the offense couldn’t capitalize on eight hits.

Toledo scored on a pair of bases-loaded walks by starter Mark Cohoon in the first before Salomon Manriquez cut the deficit in half in the second, scoring Jesus Feliciano on a single.

Manriquez’ 2-for-3 night gave him his first hits since returning to the Bisons from Double-A Binghamton.

Toledo loaded the bases again in the second on two walks and a Timo Perez single, when Ryan Strieby scored Will Rhymes with a single.

Cohoon walked in Toledo’s fourth run on his sixth free pass before another lefty, reliever Mike O’Connor, took over. Cohoon threw 74 pitches, 36 of them for strikes over just 1 and 2/3 innings, allowing four earned runs.

Zach Lutz went 2-for-4 with singles in the sixth and eighth.

Starter Ramon Garcia earned the win, allowing one earned run on seven hits with four strikeouts to one walk.

O’Connor and Taylor Tankersley combined for 4 1/3 scoreless innings in relief with three strikeouts each.

Justin Hampson hit Ben Guez with the bases loaded in the seventh, pushing the lead to 5-1.

Game Notes: Bubba Bell, who flew out as a pinch hitter, rejoined the team before the game after missing eight games on the disabled list… Jordany Valdespin registered a hit for the fourth consecutive game.
