TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons face the Toledo Mud Hens in the first game of a four-game series from Fifth Third Field (6:30 p.m.). The Herd is coming off a 3-1 series win in Columbus to begin this roadtrip. Even with last night’s loss, the Bisons have won nine of their last 13 games.
VS. THE HENS: The Bisons are 3-1 against the Mud Hens this season, having won a series back at Coca-Cola Field last week. However, the Herd has not won a game at Fifth Third Field since May 28, 2008. Since then, Buffalo has lost nine straight games in Toledo by a combined score of 64-32.
SCHWING AND MISS: RHP CHRIS SCHWINDEN will make his team-high 24th start of the season tonight. The Triple-A rookie leads the Bisons with a 3.60ERA and 119 strikeouts. Schwinden’s strikeout total is the 5th highest single-season total for a Bisons pitcher in the modern era. He is one strikeout behind RHP Randy Kramer (1988) for 4th place. Schwinden is also tied with LHP Pat Misch for seven wins on the season.
HIT KING: OF JESUS FELICIANO has 97 hits this season. The three-year Bisons’ outfielder has 365 hits with the team since 2009, only 13 shy of Bill Selby’s modern era record total of 378. With two more hits, Feliciano will tie INF Brandon Phillips (267) for the fourth most in the team’s modern era.
ROSTER MOVE: The Mets have recalled C MIKE NICKEAS from the Bisons. The backstop began the year with New York and also made a big league stint, July 28 to August 5. In nine games with the Mets, Nickeas has hit .217 (5-23) with a home run and three RBI. He has averaged .214 (36-168) with two home runs and 15RBI in 60 games with the Bisons this season.
MR. VP: INF VALENTINO PASCUCCI continues to lead all International League hitters with his 90RBI. The slugger also has 20 homers on the season, becoming the first Bisons player since DH Ernie Young to post 20HR/90RBI in a single season. Young had 25 home runs and 100RBI in 2004.
BISONS BITS: INF ZACH LUTZ has at least one RBI in eight of his last 11 games…C RAUL CHAVEZ has thrown out 50.9% of would-be base stealers (29CS, 57ATT). He leads all IL catchers by more than 12%.
METS UPDATE: The Mets (60-68) lost to the Phillies, 9-4, last night from Philadelphia. Former Bison OF LUCAS DUDA hit his seventh home run of the year in the loss while INF JUSTIN TURNER had two doubles. The Mets take on the Phillies today at 1:05 p.m.
