Syracuse sweeps Buffalo
Despite big rallies in each of Wednesday’s double-headers the Bisons could not complete the comeback and beat Syracuse in either game.
The Bisons opened the double-header losing their second straight extra-inning game to the Chiefs 7-6, and then fell 9-5 in the second game at Alliance Bank Stadium.
The Herd tied the first game at six with a rally in the fifth inning but the Chiefs ended the game in the eighth inning, beating the Bisons for the third time in extra-innings.
Tug Hulett sped into second base after Luis Hernandez dropped a fly ball in right field, and Corey Brown singled in Hulett for the win in game one of the double header.
The Chiefs are 3-1 against the Bisons when the game goes into extra innings. The last time the Bisons beat the Chiefs in extra-innings was April 8, when the Herd won 3-2 in 13 innings.
The Herd fell down early in the second game 6-0 after the Chiefs scored runs in the first three innings off of Gustavo Chacin who made his first Bisons appearance since being signed by the Mets.
In the fourth inning Valentino Pascucci led a power surge pulling the Herd back within one run. With no outs and a man on Pascucci hit his 14th home run of the season.
Jason Botts followed Pascucci’s two-run home run with his own solo-shot and the Bisons tacked on two more runs to shorten the lead, 6-5. The Chiefs came out swinging in the bottom of the fourth and lengthened their lead to 8-5.
The Chiefs added another run to take a 9-5 lead in the fifth inning of the second game. The Bisons are now 2-7 against Syracuse, with three losses coming in extra innings.
