TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Bisons take on the Norfolk Tides in the first game of a four-game series from Harbor Park (7:15 p.m.). Tonight’s game begins an eight-game roadtrip as the Herd will also travel to Durham, June 20-23. Buffalo is coming off a 1-7 homestand that included a four-game sweep at the hands of the Columbus Clippers.
VS. THE TIDES: Tonight’s contest is the Bisons first game against Norfolk this season. The Herd has fared extremely well in Virginia since returning to the International League in 1998. In 13 seasons, Buffalo has lost just one series at Harbor Park (2004: 2-3). Overall, the Bisons are 35-17 at the Tides’ home ballpark, good for a .673 winning percentage. Dating back to 2009, Buffalo has won five of its last seven games in Norfolk.
SCHWING AND MISS: RHP CHRIS SCHWINDEN will make his 12th start of the season, matching him with RHP JOSH STINSON for the team-high. Schwinden leads the Herd with a 3.34ERA and 50 strikeouts. The righty is winless in his last four starts. He’s coming off a no-decision against Columbus on June 11 where he allowed three earned runs in 5.2 innings of work.
EVANS ALMIGHTY: INF NICK EVANS has returned to the Bisons today. He was designated for assignment by the Mets on June 9 after going hitless in eight games with New York (0-12, 5BB). Evans had a five-game hit streak with the Bisons before his promotion on May 18. To make roster room, INF CHIN-LUNG HU was placed on the disabled list with a left hand contusion.
GET FIGGY WITH IT: INF LUIS FIGUEROA enters tonight’s game on a 10-game hit streak. Since June 5, the infielder has averaged an even .394 (13-33) with nine runs scored. During the streak, Figueroa has also drawn 11 walks and now has 18 free passes to only 11 strikeouts in 32 games with the Herd. Figueroa has posted a .458 on-base percentage when leading off an inning.
BISONS BITS: INF MICHAEL FISHER brings a nine-game hit streak into tonight’s game. The Triple-A rookie has averaged .278 (10-36) since June 6…RHP RYOTA IGARASHI has allowed just one run in his last eight outings (10.1IP).
METS UPDATE: The Mets (34-34) shutout the Braves last night, 4-0, to reach the .500 mark. Former Bisons RHP DILLON GEE tossed four shutout innings before the rains came and forced a two hour and 33-minute delay. OF ANGEL PAGAN hit a two-run homer in the win. New York looks for the sweep tonight at 7:10 p.m.
