TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Bisons are in Rochester for game one of a four-game series against the Red Wings from Frontier Field (7:05 p.m.). Tonight’s game opens an eight-game roadtrip as the Herd will also travel to Lehigh Valley, April 30 – May 3. The Bisons are coming off an eight-game homestand that featured four-game splits with the Red Wings and the IronPigs.
VS. RED WINGS: The Bisons and Red Wings split their four-game series last week that included a doubleheader sweep by both teams. Rochester took two on April 19 with the Herd sweeping a pair on April 21. Last season, the Bisons swept a pair of two-game sets at Frontier Field and were 6-2 against the Red Wings in their home ballpark.
NOTHING NIEU: OF KIRK NIEUWENHUIS extended his hit streak in a loud way yesterday. The outfielder hit his third home run of the year and now has hit in an International League-best 15 games. It’s the longest streak for a Bisons since INF JAVIER CASTILLO hit in 16 straight in 2009. Nieuwenhuis has averaged .385 (20-52) since the streak began on April 11. Nieuwenhuis is the only player in the International League to have reached base in all of his team’s games (19).
ROSTER MOVE: RHP D.J. CARRASCO has joined the Herd today after being optioned from New York. The righty was 0-1 with a 5.23ERA in seven games with the Mets. OF JESUS FELICIANO has also be promoted from Double-A Binghamton after hitting .324 (11-34) in eight games with the B-Mets. To make room, RHP DYLAN OWEN and RHP MANNY ALVAREZ have been transferred from Buffalo to Binghamton.
HEATING UP: INF LUIS HERNANDEZ is read hot after his slow start with the team. The infielder started 0-17 with the Bisons, but has hit .389 (7-18) in a five-game hit streak since. Yesterday, Hernandez drove home a pair of runs with a bases loaded single in the Herd’s four-run sixth inning.
HOT TEJADA: INF RUBEN TEJADA has driven in seven runs in his last five games and now leads the team with 12RBI. Tejada has hit in five straight with a .381 batting average (8-21) over the stretch.
