TODAY’S GAME: This afternoon, the Bisons host the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the third game of a four-game series from Coca-Cola Field (1:05 p.m.). The Herd is 3-3 so far on its eight-game homestand that started with a split of a four-game set with Rochester. Following tomorrow’s game, Buffalo returns to the road for an eight-game trip to Rochester and Lehigh Valley

VS. IRONPIGS: The Bisons and IronPigs are back even. The two teams have split the first 50 games (25-25) played since Lehigh Valley came into existence. The Herd has won nine of its last 12 games against the IronPigs. That record includes a 6-2 record in the last eight games played at Coca-Cola Field.

OH JENRRY: RHP JENRRY MEJIA will make his fourth start of the season today. The 21-year old is coming off his first career Triple-A loss, having allowed three runs in 5.2 innings of work on Tuesday against Rochester. The rookie has allowed just 10 hits in 18.1 innings of work this year, good for a .156 average against. His 0.98ERA on the season is the fourth lowest mark in the International League.

NOTHING NIEU: OF KIRK NIEUWENHUIS brings a 13-game hit streak into today’s game that is three games longer than any streak in the International League this season. It’s also the longest for a Bisons since INF JAVIER CASTILLO hit in 16 straight in 2009. Nieuwenhuis has averaged .378 (17-45) since the streak began on April 11. Nieuwenhuis is the only player in the International League to have reached base in all of his team’s games (17). The outfielder has actually reached base in 25 straight Triple-A games if you include the final eight games of the 2010 season.

IN A PINCH: Just activated off the disabled list yesterday, OF FERNANDO MARTINEZ clubbed a pinch hit home run in Saturday’s loss. It was the Bisons first pitch hit homer since INF RUSS ADAMS accomplished the feat on August 2, 2010 against Lehigh Valley. For Martinez, the home run was his first of the season and his 21st as a Bison.

METS UPDATE: The Mets (8-13) won their third straight game with a 6-4 victory over the Diamondbacks on Saturday. Former Bisons INF IKE DAVIS homered for the third straight day and RHP DILLON GEE improved to 2-0 on the season. New York looks for the series sweep today at 1:10 p.m. from Citi Field.
