Bisons win big over Memphis

Justin Turner had two of the Bisons 14 hits in the win

The Buffalo Bisons were 13-3 winners over the Memphis Redbirds (Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals) on Sunday afternoon from Jupiter, FL.  

The victory gives the Bisons a 3-6 record on their 13-game spring training schedule.

RHP DILLON GEE earned the victory for the Herd, tossing five shutout innings. The righty also struck out five batters.

INF RUBEN TEJADA was 1-3 at the plate, including a bases-loaded triple. INF ZACH LUTZ was 2-4 with a solo home run while INF JUSTIN TURNER (2-4) and OF KIRK NIEUWENHUIS (2-4, 3B) finished with multi-hit efforts.

    Mets re-assign O’Connor

    Southpaw was 5-2 with Herd last season

    The New York Mets re-assigned LHP MIKE O’CONNOR to minor league camp.

    This spring, O’Connor posted a 5.79ERA in seven appearances for the Mets (4.2IP, 7H, 3ER). He struck out five batters and walked just one.

    O’Connor spent the entire 2010 season in the Bisons bullpen and made a team-high 51 appearances. The southpaw was 5-2 with a 2.67ERA and 70 strikeouts in only 70.2 innings of work. O’Connor only walked 17 batters all season and yielded just a .246 average against.

    Memphis stops Herd 2-0

    The Bisons were defeated 2-0 by the Memphis Redbirds (Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals) on Monday afternoon.

    RHP DILLON GEE started for Buffalo and allowed just one run in 4.2 innings of work. He allowed only three hits and struck out seven batters. RHP RYOTA IGARASHI, RHP JOHN LUJAN and RHP MANNY ALVAREZ all chipped in an inning of shutout relief.

    Offensively, the Bisons were limited to just three hits. OF JESUS FELICIANO was 2-4 at the plate.
