Pitching powers win

The Bisons won their fourth straight game on Saturday night, 4-1 in the first game of a four-game road trip against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at Coca-Cola Park.

Dillon Gee delivered another quality start for the Herd giving up just a run on three hits over 6.2 innings. The lone run came on a Melvin Dorta solo homer in the third frame. Gee improved to 5-1 on the year.

Gee figured into the game offensively as well, leading off the third inning with a walk. After advancing to third on a double by Jesus Feliciano, Gee scored the Bisons first run of the game on a Mike Jacobs groundout.

The Bisons broke the 1-1 tie in the seventh. Following a Josh Thole double, Gee grounded a ball to IronPigs third-baseman Cody Ransom. The ball however was booted off the heel of Ransom’s glove, bounded into left field, and allowed Thole to score the go-ahead run.

The Bisons would tack on two more insurance runs in the ninth inning. One run came in via an Oscar Villarreal error and the other on a pinch-hit RBI single by D.J. Wabick.

Adam Pettyjohn and John Lujan combined for 2.1 innings of hitless relieve of Gee to close out the victory and improve the Bisons to a season best nine games above .500.

Buffalo will look to extend their winning streak tomorrow afternoon with a 1:35 p.m. start time from Coca-Cola Park.

BISONS NOTES: Jesus Feliciano went 2-4 tonight to extend his hitting streak to 11 games, which ties a team season high…Mike Jacobs went 1-4 with an RBI to extend his hitting streak to seven games…Jon Malo made his 2010 Bisons debut in the ninth inning to pinch-run for Valentino Pascucci…Emmanuel Garcia had his first multi-hit game for the Bisons going 2-4.

Bisons take on IronPigs

Buffalo travels to Lehigh Valley for a four-game series with the IronPigs. The Bisons are now a season-high 8-games over the .500 mark (25-17) and despite winning three in a row are still 1.5 games behind Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (winners in 9-of-10) and one game back of Syracuse (who have won 5 in a row) in the North Division standings.

The 2009 Buffalo & Lehigh Valley Series Review
May 5: G1) LHV 3, BUF 0; G2) PPD
The Bisons fall to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 3-0, in game one of a doubleheader. Game two is postponed due to rain.

May 6: LHV 2, BUF 1
Buffalo drops to 4-20 on the season, losing 2-1 to the IronPigs. Tim Redding, with the Herd on major league rehab, gives up one run over six innings. For the second day in a row and third time this month, the Bisons can only get game one of a doubleheader in. The Bisons starting rotation loses Jonathon Niese, who is promoted to the Mets.

May 7: BUF 6, LHV 4
Mike Lamb drives in the winning runs with a three-run double in the sixth inning as the Herd knocks-off the I-Pigs, 6-4. Closer Elmer Dessens picks up his first save of the year.

May 25: BUF 8, LHV 7
The Bisons overcome a 4-0 deficit, their largest comeback of the season, to beat the IronPigs, 8-7. Fernando Martinez and Mike Lamb each go deep for the Herd, who uses a five-run fourth inning to get back in the game. The win marks the first time all season the Bisons have won three in a row.

May 26: LHV 2, BUF 1
Oliver Perez, on rehab from New York with right knee tendinitis, strikes out five and walks five over 4.1 innings. The southpaw scatters three hits and allows only one run to the I-Pigs, who win the game 2-1. Michel Abreu cuts the lead in half with a pinch-hit, home run in the eighth inning. Fernando Martinez is promoted to New York and leaves the Bisons as the team leader in home runs (8) and RBI (28).

May 27: LHV 5, BUF 3
The I-Pigs open up a 5-0 lead and hold on to win 5-3 over the Herd. The game goes into a rain delay with two outs and a 3-0 count on Jesus Feliciano in the bottom of the ninth inning. After a 70 minute delay, Feliciano walks and pinch-hitter Robinson Cancel lines out to end the ball game.

May 28: LHV 7, BUF 1
Lehigh Valley beats up the Bisons with a 7-1 victory over the Herd. Nelson Figueroa has a rare off night, allowing six runs in 6.2 innings. Buffalo avoids the shutout thanks to a solo home run from Wily Mo Pena in the ninth inning.

August 14: LHV 12, BUF 6
The Bisons are thumped by the IronPigs, 12-6, despite out hitting Lehigh Valley, 16-11. Six Bisons have multi-hit games, including three apiece from Argenis Reyes and Andy Green, as the Herd match a season high in hits. On the mound, Lance Broadway is roughed up for eight runs (seven earned) in five innings.

August 15: BUF 7, LHV 5
A three-run homer from Nick Evans and a solo blast from Chip Ambres in the fifth inning breaks open a tie game and sends the Herd to a 7-5 win over the IronPigs. Argenis Reyes extends his hit streak to 14 games with his third consecutive three-hit game.

August 16: BUF 3, LHV 0
Tobi Stoner throws six scoreless innings and relievers Jon Switzer and Adam Bostick combine to work the last three as the Herd picks up their eighth shutout of the season, beating the I-Pigs, 3-0. Argenis Reyes’ hit streak is snapped at 14-games as the infi elder goes 0-for-3 with an RBI. Prior to the game, former Bisons Carlos Garcia and Dave Hollins are inducted into the Buffalo Baseball Hall of Fame.

August 17: BUF 9, LHV 4
Down 4-1 heading into the bottom of the eighth, the Bisons explode for eight runs in the inning to beat Lehigh Valley, 9-4, and take the series, 3-1. The Herd sends 12 batters to the plate, collects six hits, three walks and score a season-high in runs in the monster eighth inning. Chip Ambres collects two hits in the inning and Rene Rivera has two run-producing at bats in the inning: a two-run homer and a sacrifice fly.

September 4: G1) LHV 4, BUF 1; G2) LHV 7, BUF 2
The Bisons begin their last series of the season by losing both games of a doubleheader to Lehigh Valley. The offense only produces three runs on 10 hits over the two games.

September 5: BUF 6, LHV 4
The Bisons collect their final win of the 2009 season with 6-4 victory over the IronPigs. Tobi Stoner turns in his fi fth consecutive quality start and wins his fourth decision in a row. Stoner is rewarded for his strong finish with a Big League promotion after the season. Each of the Bisons 1-5 hitters have at least two hits.

September 6: LHV 5, BUF 4
Jason Dubois’ three-run home run in the top of the ninth seems to give the Bisons a come from behind victory, but the I-Pigs answer with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the ninth to walk-off with the 5-4 win. Jesus Feliciano’s three hits puts him in firm control of the IL hit lead.

September 7: LHV 3, BUF 0
The Bisons end the 2009 season with a 3-0 loss to the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. Adam Pettyjohn gives the Herd seven solid innings but the off ense sputters in the season finale. Jesus Feliciano ends the season with an International League-league best 154 hits. Tobi Stoner is promoted to the Mets after the game, the only Bisons player to be promoted with the MLB roster expanded.
