Red-Hot Herd win again
Jesus Feliciano had three more hits and scored a pair of runs as Buffalo defeated Lehigh Valley 6-5, on Sunday afternoon. Josh Thole added three hits as Buffalo collected their fifth consecutive victory.
Feliciano collected two singles and a triple for his third consecutive multi-hit game. He extend his hit streak to a Bisons’ season-high 12 games with a base knock off IronPigs’ starter Nate Bump. Feliciano also drove home a run with a bloop single in the fourth and used his three-bagger in the sixth inning to score the eventual game-winning run.
Feliciano’s average now stands at .383, an amazing 34 points higher than any other batter in the International League. After going 3-5 on Sunday, he has averaged .458 since his hit streak began on May 12.
Like Feliciano all season, the Bisons attack was a constant force on Sunday. The Herd scored in four consecutive innings, starting with a pair of runs in the third. Andy Green and Mike Hessman drove home runs with hits to give Buffalo a 2-1 edge.
Hessman now has 48RBI on the season, nine more than any IL slugger.
Feliciano and Green plated runs in the fourth inning and Ruben Tejada knocked in Mike Cervenak in the fifth. Green followed Feliciano’s triple in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly to drive in his second run of the game.
The run support went to the benefit of Tobi Stoner (3-4), who won his third consecutive decision. The Bisons’ starter allowed four runs on six hits and struck out six batters. At the plate, Stoner also singled, scored a run and laid down a sacrifice bunt.
Bobby Parnell used a 99 mph fastball to work through the seventh and eighth innings with five strikeouts. John Lujan struck out the side around a base hit in the ninth inning for his second save in as many days. Bisons pitchers combined to strike out a season-high 14 batters.
Bisons Notes: Prior to Sunday’s game, the Bisons activated INF/OF Mike Cervenak off the disabled list. Cervenak went 1-4 after missing the last 17 games with right plantar fasciitis. INF Mike Jacobs was ejected after a strikeout in the fourth inning. Jacobs went 0-3 in the game and failed the reach base for the first time in his last 23 games.
