TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Toledo Mud Hens in the second game of a four-game series from Fifth Third Field (6:30 p.m.). The Hens struck first in the set with last night’s thrilling 11-10 victory. Today’s game is part of an eight-game roadtrip as the club will travel to Columbus for a four-game series after Wednesday’s off day.
vs. THE HENS: The Bisons are 2-3 against the Mud Hens so far in 2009. The teams split a four-game series back at Coca-Cola Field, July 16-19. Despite last night’s loss, Toledo has been kind to Buffalo. The Herd has a .600 winning pct. (27-18) in last 12 years at the home of the Mud Hens.
DYNOMITE DEBUT: LHP Adam Pettyjohn will make his first start as a Bison tonight. The southpaw threw three innings of relief in his Herd debut on Wednesday and earned the victory over the PawSox. Pettyjohn was signed by the Mets on July 27. Last season, he won an International League-best 15 games while with Louisville, going 15-6 with a 4.59ERA as a Bat.
THE HITS KEEP COMING: OF Jesus Feliciano collected three more hits last night, raising his current hit streak to a personal high of nine games (.368, 14-38). Feliciano has averaged .362 (25-69) since the All-Star break and has been held without a hit in just three games since the start of July. Overall, Feliciano’s .315 is 5th best in the International League while his 113 hits are 4th best.
IN LIKE A LAMB: INF Mike Lamb is clearly in mid-season form. Released at the end of camp by Milwaukee, the slugger had just three at-bats in extended spring after signing with the Mets on April 25. After just 19 hits in his first 108 at-bats with the Herd, Lamb has averaged .296 (55-182) since May 29. He is currently on a four-game hit streak where he has averaged .563 (9-18). Overall, the veteran has hit .324 (23-71) with runners in scoring position.
SOLID PEN WORK: LHP Adam Bostick added two more innings of shutout relief last night to his impressive season. The flame-thrower has struck out 12 batters in his last 7.0 innings of work. On the season, Bostick has allowed just 14 hits to 26 strikeouts in 24.0 innings of work. Right-handed batters have averaged just .143 (9-63) off him this season.
