SPECIAL NOTE: As part of Irish Festival Night, the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish Leprechaun mascot will make an appearance at tonight’s game at Coca-Cola Field.
TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Charlotte Knights in the final game of a four-game series from Coca-Cola Field (7:05 p.m.). The Bisons need a victory tonight to avoid a four-game sweep at the hands of the Knights. After this game, the Bisons will have an off day on Wednesday before hosting a two-game series against rival Rochester.
vs. THE KNIGHTS: The Bisons are 2-5 against the Knights this season. The two teams split a four-game series in Charlotte, June 19-22. The Knights have outscored the Herd 37-34 in the season-series. The Bisons won the season series over Charlotte last season, 5-3.
NIESE-LY DONE: LHP Jonathon Niese has been outstanding of late. The southpaw is 3-1 with a 1.03ERA over his last four outings -a stretch that has lowered his season ERA from 8.05 to 5.18. At one point, Niese had thrown 24.1 consecutive scoreless innings before allowing a run in 7th inning of his last start, June 25 against Gwinnett. In his last four games, Niese has fanned 25 batters and allowed just 20 hits in 26.1 innings of work.
FELICIANO FEELIN’ IT: OF Jesus Feliciano continues to be one of the hottest bats in the Buffalo Bisons order. Feliciano remains among the top hitters in the International League. The outfielder is now hitting .309 this year, 8th-best in the IL. Feliciano has hit safely in 26 of his last 32 games since May 23. During this stretch, he has averaged .358 (43-120) with nine doubles, 20 RBI and 21 runs scored.
FEELIN’ SULLY: CF Cory Sullivan put on a show last night with four hits in five at bats. Along with three singles, the outfielder doubled, drove in a run and scored once. The four-hit game was Sullivan’s second in the last four games and team-leading third of the season. In June, Sullivan is hitting .337 (31-92) with five doubles, eight RBI and 13 runs scored in 25 games.
WHAT CAN BROWN DO FOR YOU: OF Emil Brown had the hot bat the last couple of days. The outfielder has put together back-to-back three-hit games that have included a double, a home run and four RBI. Brown is hitting .313 (21-67) with two home runs and 11RBI in 18 games as a Bison.
