TODAY’S GAME: This morning, the Buffalo Bisons face the Durham Bulls in the finale of a four-game series at Durham Bulls Athletic Park (11:05 a.m.). The Bisons need a win today to earn a split of the set as the Bulls have won two straight since Buffalo’s 9-3 victory on Friday. After this morning’s game, the Herd will travel to Norfolk for a four-game series against the Tides, June 2-5.
ON CLOUD NINE: With INF Argenis Reyes on the disabled list with his nine-game hit streak, INF Javier Valentin can become the first Bisons batter to hit in 10 straight games this year. Valentin has averaged .324 (11-34) in nine games since May 23. He has three doubles, a home run and four RBI during the stretch. Valentin has reached base in all but two of his 17 games as a Bison.
FEELIN’ SULLY: One behind Valentin, OF Cory Sullivan comes into today’s game on an eight-game hit streak. Sullivan has hit .452 (14-31) during his stretch to raise his average 57 points since May 21 (.202 – .259). He has five runs, three doubles, three RBI and four walks during his streak.
HOMER HAPPY: C Rene Rivera got the day off yesterday, but that probably won’t cool off his hot bat. Rivera has homered in each of his last two games, Friday and Saturday in Durham. The only other Bisons player to homer in consecutive games was OF Fernando Martinez, who hit three out, May 18-19 in Lehigh Valley. Rivera has now hit in six straight games, averaging .333 (8-24) with five runs, five doubles, two home runs and three RBI.
GREAT DEBUT: LHP Adam Bostick was great for the Bisons yesterday, just hours have being promoted from Binghamton (AA). The southpaw allowed just a walk in two hitless innings of relief yesterday. Prior to joining the Bisons, Bostick was 3-0 with a 2.60ERA in 11 relief outings with the B-Mets.
UNHAPPY LIST: The Bisons have seven players on the disabled list: RHP Dillon Gee, INF Andy Green, INF Mark Kiger, OF Bobby Kielty, RHP Carlos Muniz, C Mike Nickeas and INF Argenis Reyes. On the year, the Bisons have already lost 140 man-games to injury. Because of all the injuries, the Bisons have already had 45 different players in their first 48 games.
