Reyes to rotation
While Jeff Weaver was scheduled to get the start tonight at Durham, the newest Bisons pitcher, Anthony Reyes will get the call for the series opener against the Bulls.
Having him inserted into the rotation is not a surprise at all but the timing is a little sped up versus the norm. Generally, a player will toss a bullpen or light side session for the new club’s pitching coach or manager and then have a day or two off. Reyes threw for pitching coach Scott Radinsky yesterday after arriving to the Bisons clubhouse for the first time Monday prior to the series finale in Charlotte.
The last time the 26-year old threw in game competition was July 20, so it is possible that there were others observing his bullpen or a simulated game and signed off on starting him soon after arriving with the Bisons.
The Indians received very strong reports on Reyes and expect him to be part of their Big League makeup prior to the end of the season.
With the addition of Reyes and Aaron Laffey in the past few days, the rotation will have to be tweaked again. Laffey told me he’ll throw in game action on Monday at Dunn Tire Park. As it looks right now: Reyes, Jeff Weaver, David Huff and Zach Jackson will start each game of the series against Durham.
